Our 30-Year History
Grace Church held its first service in 1978, but its most elemental beginnings date back to Senior Pastor Ron Tucker's college days. In 1970 he started a youth worship/Bible study group. They met two and three nights a week over the next few years until they outgrew his parents' home and moved to a local church. There they became the church's youth group and Ron, the church’s youth pastor. Their Saturday night meeting grew to over 1500 people of every age.
After taking time off to travel and seek God about his future, Ron returned to St. Louis. On May 21, 1978, Grace Church was launched in a small rented room in a union hall with thirty people. Five months later ten times as many were coming. The church found more room in a leased storefront that was located on part of the land they now own. Then in 1980, the church bought the brick Annex Building and nine acres of land, preparing the way for the construction of their present building and the purchase of adjoining land.
Over the last two decades more buildings were built. Dozens of ministries were born. Thousands of lives and eternities were changed as the focus remained on those things that brought them together in the first place — connecting withGod and others.
Our Staff
There's something to be said for having a great staff, and we do. But there’s a lot more to be said for having a great congregation. We believe that the primary purpose of the staff is to facilitate the equipping of the church members so that lay members can perform the majority of the ministry. So instead of emphasizing the great staff that serves at Grace, we emphasize the great people who give their time and talents freely as members.
