The Bondage of Religion
I define "religion" as any attempt on the part of human beings to improve or enhance their relationship with God on the basis of what they do and produce - their religious performance. On this basis, "religion" is opposed to true Christianity.

Set free from the bondage of religon...
Hi,
I was raised Lutheran and was in bondage for quite a long time trying to "please" God. I attended Grace's "Steps to Freedom for Men" and it totally set me free! I really didn't do anything but attend the weekly discussion group and listen to the audio CD's by Neil Anderson and BAM! All of a sudden I feel like a can run w/o anything (Satan lies) holding me back. Now I know God loves me, instead of just hoping that he does. Now when I read scripture (especially out loud) it is alive and jumps off the pages at me and resonates in my soul. Praise God!.
I've tried 4 different bible translations, 4-5 different small groups at Grace and STF for men, for me, is true to its name! Thank you Jesus!
It's not about religon, it's about one's relationship with our heavenly Father through Christ Jesus.
Your brother in Christ,
Randy
The End of Religion
Lou - thanks for the blog "The Bondage of Religion." It's really good stuff that resonates with what God has been revealing in my life over the past year. I just finished a book called "The End of Religion" by Bruxy Cavey (NavPress) that blew my socks off.
I am so excited about this book that I am recommending (and giving) it to all my friends - and anyone who will receive it - I recently bought 10 copies to give away. The subtitle is "The subversive spirituality of Jesus." In summary, Bruxy methodically dismantles the religious establishment (as a means to God) and points out how Jesus came to utterly destroy religion once and for all making a way (through himself) for us to know, rather to be known by, God.
I want to encourage you to continue to share what the Spirit shows you. These things are not obvious to us by our own intellect, 'wisdom,' or life's experiences, but revealed by his Spirit alone. Many who were brought up in religious environs will hear the truth of Jesus and be set free; thanks for your obedience in proclaiming the good news.
I want to encourage anyone "stuck" in a religion - a religion of *any* kind - to ask God to set you free. Freedom is found in Christ alone - the author and finisher of your faith!
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" - 1 Cor 2:9
His amazing grace continues to amaze me.
peace in Him,
Phil Downen
